Currently Working On

I feel like I have been working on many different projects lately and not finishing anything. So, I thought I would do a little accountability blog post and share what I've been working on and am planning to work on lately, in the hopes that making it public will help me actually get stuff done.  So, here is what I've been working on lately:

Draw A Lady Daily

This is a daily art project for the month of March that I started as a way to practice drawing people and celebrate Women's History Month. I post drawings on Instagram every day using the hashtag #drawaladydaily. It has been a really fun project so far and a few other people have joined in, which is even better.

The only goal of Draw A Lady Daily is to draw ladies in any way, shape, or form. I've drawn women from my imagination and a series of women in history and, recently, have been making little gifs of ladies overlaid with photos of the abstract paintings I've been working on. Which brings me to my next project...

Abstract Paintings

I'm really excited about these! They are totally out of my comfort zone/unlike anything I usually do in my art practice. I've been making abstract acrylic paintings with palette knives and I made it a goal to cover all of the 5x5" canvases in my possession. Currently, the majority are finished, but there are quite a few that are still in progress.

Working on these is very different from how I usually work, the layers take several hours to dry, so I've been adding some a layer or two, seeing how it shapes up, and coming back to it later, and sometimes even taking several days between working on them. The paintings to through so many wildly different stages before they're done.

I'm hoping to finish these up soon and add a whole collection to my Etsy shop, and also share a more in-depth blog post about my process for these, so look out for that.

Zines!

I've been wanting to (and saying I've been going to) make a zine for what feels like forever (several years at least) and I have started a few, but I can never seem to get around to actually doing the thing. So hopefully sharing this goal here now will push me to make it happen.

I feel like I get very hung up on them not turning out like I hoped they would, feeling like I need a really good theme or idea, and getting overwhelmed by the whole printing/assembling process. But I need to get over it and finally do what I've been thinking about for so long.

I'm actually hoping to make two zines (why not go all in?). One will be very personal - kind of a glimpse into my brain/art journal. For the other, I'd like to put together a zine of drawings of ladies, featuring some drawings from my Draw a Lady Daily project and new drawings as well.

Those are the main personal projects that I'm working on and planning on working on lately. Now I'm going to get myself in gear and actually make progress on these! If you'd like to share what you're working on I'd love to hear about it!
